The former president’s public endorsement has drawn backlash, with critics, including Movement for Change flagbearer Alan Kyerematen, suggesting that his status as a statesman requires neutrality in political endorsements.

Mr Kufuor defended his stance, emphasising the importance of experience and wisdom in guiding his political decisions.

Reflecting on Dr Bawumia’s contributions during his tenure as President, Mr Kufuor lauded his expertise, particularly in navigating economic challenges.

He credited Dr Bawumia’s work as part of the Bank of Ghana team for playing a significant role in stabilising the country’s economy during difficult times.

Highlighting the upcoming elections as pivotal for Ghana’s progress, Mr Kufuor encouraged voters to support the NPP, portraying Dr Bawumia’s leadership as vital to advancing the nation’s development.

This latest development has sparked discussions on the role of former statesmen in active political discourse and their influence on Ghana’s political landscape.
