Former NPP Upper West Regional chairman dies

A founder member of the New Patriotic Party, the late Alhaji Issahaque became the first chairman of the party from 1992 till 2005 when he voluntarily stepped down.

Confirming the sad news to the Daily Graphic, the Second Regional Vice Chairman of the party, Mr Hafiz Bin Salih, described the late chairman as the kingpin of the NPP who facilitated the establishment of the party in the Upper West Region.

He said but for his sterling qualities, the NPP would not have been in the region which was created by former President J. J. Rawlings under the government of the Provisional National Defence Council which later metamorphosed into the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“He will be remembered for his forthrightness, courage and dedication to the NPP. He will also be forever missed by the NPP, since his demise will create a huge vacuum. His loss is not only for the Upper West Region but the country and NPP in general,” Mr Bin Salih concluded.

He is survived by three wives and 18 children.

According to a family source, the late Issahaque would be buried on Wednesday afternoon after Muslim prayers.
