EC caution aspirants on filing regulations for Dec 7 election
The Electoral Commission has urged presidential and parliamentary aspirants to take the contents of their statutory declarations seriously because of the legal implications made under oath.

Again the EC in a statement signed by its Head of Communications, Mr Eric Dzakpasu has urged candidates or persons filing on their behalf to submit their nomination forms early to ensure they meet the deadline.
The Electoral Commission stands to rake-in about GH₵1,250,000 in filing fees from the presidential nomination alone should 25 aspirants who have since picked forms successfully file by Friday.
The aspirants or their representatives will need to appear before the Chairperson of the EC, Mrs Charlotte Osei, who also doubles as the Returning Officer with their GHc50,000 filing fees in a banker's draft and the completed nomination forms on Thursday and Friday. The EC Chair could decide to appoint someone to represent her as well as Returning Officer.
For the Parliamentary elections, aspirants are to submit their nomination documents at the District level with their Ghc10,000 filing fees in bankers draft.
Candidates in the presidential election who are able to obtain more than 25 per cent of the total votes cast in December would have their monies refunded to them but if they are not, then it would be sent into the consolidated fund.
For the Parliamentary elections, a candidates money would be refunded if he or she is able to obtain 12.5 percent of the total votes cast.
The political parties which have picked nomination forms and are expected file are the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), the National Democratic Party (NDP), the United Development System Party (UDSP), the People’s National Convention (PNC) and the United Love Party (ULP).
Others are the Independent People’s Party (IPP), the United Progressive Party (UPP), the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), the United Front Party (UFP), the Democratic People’s Party (DPP), the All People’s Congress (APC), the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) and the Reform Patriotic Democrats (RPD).
The independent candidates are Mr Jacob Osei-Yeboah, Mr Kwaku Antwi Owusu, Mr Lawrence Yamil Nketia, Mr Kwame Asiedu Walker, Chief Dr Yaw Kumi, John Alex Hamah and Major Ibrahim Rida (retd) as well as tow un-named others.
