Biakoye NPP supporters demonstrate

A large number of supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from the Biakoye Constituency in the Volta Region have staged a protest against the renomination of a candidate perceived to be a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as their District Chief Executive.

Clad in red bands, the members said they suspected the President was in the process of nominating the Presiding Member of the district assembly, Ms Christy Nutakor, as the DCE.

According to them, the candidate had been allegedly going round the constituency canvassing for support from chiefs and opinion leaders claiming President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo had nominated her for the position.

Addressing a press conference in Ho on Monday, the Constituency Chairman, Mr Suleman Moro, said it had come to them “not only as a shock but a huge disappointment when there had been no consultation with party members on the ground.”

“Does it mean the party in the constituency lacked qualified persons that it had fallen on a known NDC woman or is the President so desperate for a female to be the DCE that he is ready to sell the party to our opponent in the constituency?,” the supporters asked.

The supporters said they would reserve their next line of action, while they waited to see if their concern would be addressed or ignored.

It stated that the party in the constituency would never be the same if it turned out that an NDC member was to become the leader of the NPP in the Biakoye Constituency.

The Biakoye Constituency is one of the oldest political blocks in the Volta Region and had failed to confirm the first nominee of the President, Madam Millicent Kabuki Carbo, on three occasions.
