Aspiring organiser threatens court action against NPP confab

An aspiring National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Nyamah, has threatened to put a court injunction on the party’s upcoming delegates conference slated for Tamale on Saturday, April 12, 2014.

He said the decision stemmed from the party’s proposal to disallow candidates from addressing delegates on the conference grounds ahead of voting.

“The decision by the elections committee not to allow us, the contestants to address the delegates in Tamale is totally unacceptable and unconstitutional and if the party insists on going ahead, I may consider the option of placing an injunction on the elections,” he explained.

He added “the party has always allowed contestants to sell their messages to delegates even if it is for a minute; it has never happened not with my knowledge that a national delegates conference has been held without addresses by candidates; the explanation of time constraints does not wash and time will have to be made available by any means necessary.”

“I therefore call on the election committee to rescind its decision not to allow us to address the delegates because I have only my ideas and confidence to sell to the delegates and not money; failure to do so, I will proceed to court to place an injunction on the elections or lead a demonstration in Tamale in protest.”

Mr. Nyamah told Citi News, a revolution was needed to bring justice into the party ahead of the 2016 general elections saying, “we cannot be seeking justice at the Supreme Court and fail to seek justice within our party.”

He also called on the delegates to boycott the event if they would not be allowed to have the aspirants convince them to make informed choices on the day of voting.

Richard Nyamah further challenged the NPP leadership to make a definite statement on the destiny of the five NPP youth activists who were incarcerated by a Tamale High Court.

“I wish to request as a matter of urgency an immediate statement from the party leadership before the conference to address the fate of NPP youth in the northern region who have either been incarcerated or killed as in Yahuza Yakubu, Abibu Dagbana, Majeed Alhassan, Alhassan Sayibu and Imoro Gundaanaa and just recently Abdul Naziru of Kanadaha,” Mr Nyamah empahsised.
