Alan Kyerematen unveils food production priority in GTP
Independent presidential aspirant, Alan Kyerematen, says he will prioritize increasing food production in Ghana if elected President.

Speaking at a dialogue with the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Accra, Mr. Kyerematen outlined his plans to create a parallel food storage and distribution system for the private sector, complementing the national buffer stock efforts.
"Food inflation is a pressing issue in Ghana, and the solution lies in boosting food production domestically. This will not only lower food prices but also significantly reduce inflation," he explained, highlighting these policies as integral parts of his Great Transformation Plan (GTP) aimed at achieving self-reliance for the country.
Mr. Kyerematen lamented Ghana's heavy reliance on IMF interventions, stating that the country has faced numerous debt crises despite previously achieving significant debt reductions.
"Our mission is to break the duopoly of the political system in Ghana and mobilize national resources for the benefit of Ghanaians. We cannot continue to be poor when we have abundant resources that mostly benefit foreigners," he emphasized.
As part of his plans, Mr. Kyerematen pledged to renegotiate unfavourable agreements with multinational and foreign companies to ensure greater benefits for Ghanaians.
In response, Dr. Yaw Baah, Secretary-General of the TUC, urged Mr. Kyeremanten to honour his commitments if elected, citing challenges such as low economic growth, high unemployment rates, declining currency value, and a heavy debt burden that have made life difficult for many Ghanaians, particularly the youth.
The dialogue highlighted the urgency of addressing economic challenges and implementing strategies to improve living standards and economic stability in Ghana.
