Afoko lauds new executives: Charges them to reach out to losing aspirants

A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Paul Afoko, who is aspiring to become the next national chairman of the party, has sent a special congratulatory message to all elected polling station and constituency executives of the party.

He has also called on them to immediately reach out to the other aspirants who lost in their respective elections and work in unity to rebuild, rebrand and unite the party for victory in the 2016 elections.

The NPP, as part of its national calendar of activities, over the weekend held elections throughout the country to elect constituency executives for the party, except the Eastern Region, where constituency elections were postponed in honour of the father of the National Women Organiser of the party, Madam Otiko Djaba. Already, the party had organised its polling station elections on November 15, 2013. The party is also gearing up for its regional elections in January 2014 while its national election is scheduled for March 1, 2014.

According to Mr Afoko, winning the 2016 elections should be the topmost priority of all members of the NPP, adding that “there cannot be any room for petty squabbles and divisions”.

“From now onwards, everything we say or do should be aimed at winning the 2016  elections. There is no time to wait or waste; the campaign begins now,” he charged.

He said it was for that reason he was offering himself to lead the NPP back to its winning ways in the 2001 and 2004 elections.

In an interview, he argued that the NPP could and should recapture power but insisted that it could only be done if the party restructured, rebranded and repositioned itself and also united all the so-called factions in the party.

In the view of Mr Afoko, factionalism in the party was detrimental to its fortunes and progress.

He, therefore, reiterated his commitment and dedication to unite the party, adequately resource it and  keep all the party’s constituency offices open and operating at all times saying, “ the NPP is a conglomeration of all tribes, faiths and persuasion that the new Ghana represents and that this is evidenced by the various groups that came together to form the Northern People’s Party, which is the root of the NPP.”

He disclosed that under his national chairmanship, he would put some key positions of the constituency office on salary, give polling station and constituency executives benchmarks to achieve evident growth for the party and put the party in a position to win power.

“My appearance on the scene to contest the position of the national chairman offers the NPP an opportunity to answer the party’s critics once and for all on the question of who the NPP truly is,” he stated.

“It is very clear now that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) does not have what it takes to run the country,”  he said.

According to Mr Afoko, the NPP could and should recapture power but added that victory in 2016 could be achieved through hard work, unity and the restructuring of party structures.
