Adhere to government’s laid down strategies - Appiah-Mensah to govt appointees

A leading member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Yaw Dabie Appiah-Mensah has challenged government appointees to strictly adhere to the government’s laid down strategies aimed at achieving objectives of the various socio-economic policies and programmes.

He said government policies and programmes could be achieved only when those charged for their implementation did their work devoid of personal interest while refraining from acts that could undermine the very work they had been entrusted to do.

“It is unfortunate that some appointees are thinking about their future political prospects instead of assisting the President to achieve his vision to ensure that the country could depend on its own resources and end its dependence on its foreign partners,” he stated.

Speaking to journalists on the attitude of some government appointees, Mr Appiah-Mensah who is a former NPP Regional Organiser of the erstwhile Brong-Ahafo Region, said “I have observed that some of the appointees were “running shoulder-to-shoulder to the President”.

“This is not what we as foot soldiers of the party expect them to do. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is the only President and we trust that he is capable of implementing the right policies and programmes to take the country out of its socio-economic problems”.

Mr Appiah-Mensah said if any of the government appointees had a presidential ambition, he had to shelve that ambition and give of his best to repose the confidence that the President had entrusted in him or her.

He explained that the Ghana Beyond Aid concept was a well-thought out concept which should be embraced by all government appointee since Ghana could not continue to “go out with cup in hand begging for money in order to provide for basic amenities for its people”.

“That is the vision of the President and all his appointees should be committed to its ideals instead of subtly pushing their presidential agenda to the fore to the detriment of the work they had been entrusted to do”, Mr Appiah-Mensah stated.

NDC primaries

Commenting on the just-ended NDC primaries, Mr Appiah-Mensah said the NDC's new crop of candidates were not different from their predecessors who plundered the limited state resources.

According to him, former President John Mahama and his team would bring virtually nothing new to the table in 2020, and it would be a huge gamble for the Ghanaians to hand back power to the NDC.

He said, President Akufo-Addo is righting the wrongs of the John Mahama's administration and therefore Ghanaians must trust him with more years as the president of this Republic.
