Yaa Naa urges unity and harmony in Dagbon

The new King of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II, has called for all to accept to put the past behind them and work together to bring progress to the area.

He said it was important for everybody to recognize that without peace and unity, it would be difficult to convince any investor to put their money in the area.

That, he said, was why they should put an end to needless conflicts to attract investors and pave way for rapid socio-economic development.

Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II was speaking through the Vo-Na, M. B. Bawa, a former Member of the Council of State, after his coronation in Yendi.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo joined the tall list of high profile personalities who were present at the investiture of the King to give the ceremony added importance and colour.
Yaa Naa Mahama’s coronation has brought closure to the 17-year bitter chieftaincy conflict between the two royal gates of Dagbon – Andanis and the Abudus.

He underlined his eagerness to work with the government and development partners to better the lives of the people.

He added that he would require the support of the other chiefs in Dagbon to scrap outmoded customs, which had the tendency to hold back development and undermine peace and unity.

He was going to be a King for all the people in Dagbon and would not discriminate against anybody.

Dagombas are one people with a common destiny, he said, noting that the area had a lot of investment opportunities and expressed confidence that investors would be attracted to the place, if assured that there was enduring peace.

He thanked President Akufo-Addo for keeping his promise of reuniting Dagbon.
