Workers of Metro Mass protest against management

Staff of the Metro Mass Transit Limited on Wednesday staged a demonstration at the premises of the company and called on the Managing Director, Madam Bennet Aboagye and all management staff to step down with immediate effect.

The workers accused the leadership of mismanaging the affairs of the company.

Clad in red, some of them told Graphic Online that the company has sanctioned the purchase of a luxurious vehicle at the cost of $108,000 for the Managing Director at a time when over 100 buses required urgent maintenance but there were no funds for that.

They further stated that the management of the company had failed to account for some monies meant for their upkeep and maintenance of the buses.

The workers deflated the tyres of the vehicles of some management staff.

In solidarity with the aggrieved workers, the Secretary General of TUC, Dr Anthony Yaw Baah said the demonstration was in the right direction.

He said the grievances of the workers will be tabled before the board of the company.

The Head of Communications of the company, Madam Bernice Akologo told Graphic Online that the workers union wrote to the management on Friday on their grievances and the board had scheduled a meeting on Wednesday to address the issue, and therefore management was surprised that about the demonstration.

Some commuters were left stranded because the drivers abandoned their vehicles.
