UPSA Global Alumni support trader with GH¢15,500
The Global Alumni of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has assisted a 64-year old trader with a stationery shop worth about GH¢10,500 to help mitigate her financial burden.
The association also invested GH¢5,000 into treasury bills to secure her future and that of her children.

They also provided her a physical cash of GH¢1,000 as seed money.
The gesture was to show appreciation for the motherly love and care she has continuously showed the students year in, year out to enable them to deal with their educational challenges.
Strong pillar
The Coordinator of the association, Mr Francis Dadzie, explained that Madam Rosemary Afua Mankosa, a mother of two, had over the years continued to serve as a strong pillar in the lives of most of the students who enrolled at the UPSA.
Particularly during the years when the school was not much developed, he said, the woman became the mother figure for every student to rely on for assistance.
“She served us by washing our clothes, fetching water for us and could even run errands for us. She played an important role in our studies as students of IPS at that time and we think this is something little we can also do to show our appreciation,” Mr Dadzie said.
“We decided that for the role she played in our lives, we should be able to organise ourselves and build a container and stock it with stationery items which befits the service that she rendered to us so that she can also make a living out of it, “he added.
Go back to roots
The Coordinator further encouraged other alumni groups to also “go back to their roots” and support individuals who gave them support during their days in school.
“If you have found your place in society and you have a good living, go back to those people because they have contributed to our education. It is not only our lecturers and the universities we must always support. We must also look at the people who did some of the little things for us,” he said.
Gratitude
Madam Mankosa, who was eleted, expressed her gratitude to the association for having her in their thoughts and taking such an initiative to transform her life.
She said she had never, for once, imagined her standard of living could ever be uplifted within the shortest time.
“This is the day I can never forget in my life. Of course, I did the little I could to assist these people but I never thought they would remember me someday and transform my life,” she said.
She gave an assurance that she would not relent but rather work hard to expand the shop in the shortest time possible.
“I’m very much impressed and I will make sure that I work very hard to expand the shop so that they will not regret doing this for me. It has not been easy taking care of myself and my two daughters but now my life has totally been transformed and I can also call myself a shop owner,” she said.
