Rotary Club of Accra Dansoman holds career guidance session

The Rotary Club of Accra Dansoman District 9102 has held a career guidance and counselling session for students of the St Mary's Senior High School in Accra.

The President of the Club, Mr Kwaku Agyepong Doffour-Dapaah said the session held Saturday (February 1, 2019) was in response to a growing trend of young people ending up in professions and careers which they later regret.

He said globally, education was a major focus of all Rotarians given that it is a vital element in the development of nations.

"It is very important to let young people have information about their future careers before they make decisions that alter their lives.

"We decided that this is the opportune time to talk to students of St Mary's SHS to help them make such decisions based on the courses they are doing and what they are passionate about".

The session held Saturday at the school was addressed by six speakers including Mr John Oduro, an internationally renowned chef; Ms Mabel Otsiman, a civil engineer and Mr Ralph Baah-Wonkyi, an architect.

The remaining speakers were Lawyer Dorothy Friendlander, a legal practitioner; Dr Irene Ntiamoh, a medical practitioner and Rotarian Stephen Essien, a marketing professional.

All the speakers shared with the students their inspirational stories which started from humble beginnings in secondary school to their respective careers.

The session was climaxed with the presentation of certificates and Rotary souvenirs to the speakers by Past President Dela Gomado, President Doffour-Dapaah and Rotarian Shirley Addaquay.
