Mahama swears in new CHRAJ and NCCE bosses

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed two new substantive chairpersons for the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).

They are Madam Josephine Nkrumah for the NCCE and Mr Joseph Whittal for CHRAJ. They are both lawyers.

Madam Nkrumah prior to her elevation was a Deputy Chairperson of the NCCE responsible for Finance and Administration whilst Mr Whittal was also a Deputy Commissioner at CHRAJ in charge of Legal and Investigations.

Madam Nkrumah was made a Deputy chairperson at the NCCE in April 2015 by President Mahama alongside another deputy, Mr Samuel Asare Akuamoah.

The position of the chairperson of the NCCE had been vacant since July 2015 when the then substantive post holder, Mrs Charlotte Osei was appointed Chairperson of the Electoral Commission.

With regards to CHRAJ, the position had been vacant since November 2015 when the then substantive post holder, Ms Lauretta Lamptey was removed for abuse of office by President Mahama.

Mr Richard Quayson, another Deputy Commissioner at CHARJ had been acting since the post became vacant but his colleague deputy commissioner, Joseph Whittal got the appointment as the substantive commissioner. 

Mr Whittal was appointed in July 2012 as deputy commissioner of CHRAJ,

The appointments come a few days after President Mahama lost the presidential election to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The president-elect will be sworn-in on January 7, 2017.

Graphic Online’s Presidential Correspondent, Kwame Asare Boadu reported that the two new commissioners were sworn into office on Tuesday at the Flagstaff House by President Mahama.
