Presby Women's Fellowship donates to Sekondi Female Prisons
The Women's Fellowship of the Trinity Presbyterian Church of Ghana in Takoradi in the Western Region, has presented a number of items worth about GHC1000 to inmates at the Sekondi Female Prisons.

The donation of toiletries, biscuits, bags of rice, gari, detergents, iodated salt, loaves of bread, sanitary pads, used clothing, cooking oil, sugar and pastries, formed part of activities that marked the 76th anniversary celebration of the fellowship.
Mrs Paulina Omari-Mireku, the president of the women group who made the presentation on behalf of her colleagues at the weekend, expressed the fellow-feeling of the group to the inmates, some of whom she noted were there through no fault of theirs.

Quoting the scriptures, she explained, "If your fellow is in the prison, visit him or her so that they will feel at home and realise that they also are part of the society and have people caring for them."
Mrs Omari-Mireku again urged the inmates to rely on God and have confidence in Him that one day, they would finish their various terms of imprisonment to join the larger society again.
The fellowship president, however, advised them to concentrate on whatever trade or skills training they were undertaking seriously during their respective sentences so that when they were out one day from prison they could use their handiwork to fend for themselves and their families, adding "We shall continue to remember you in our prayers."
Hard economic situation
Assistant Superintendent of Prisons (ASP) Alberta Hammond, who received the items on behalf of the management of the female prisons, expressed her profound appreciation and gratitude to the members for the gift and thinking positively about the female prisoners.
She noted the hard economic situation in the country and the fact that the government alone could not shoulder all the responsibility in caring for prisoners and other vulnerable groups across the country.

ASP Hammond, therefore, appealed to individuals of goodwill and corporate bodies to come to the aid of the prisoners, and that whatever they donated would be appreciated and that it would go a long way to improve the conditions at the prisons.
