Superintendent Amaning asked drivers operating through the Tema-Ashaiman road to do away with bad road manners to prevent accidents that are avoidable.

He said Christmas is approaching and drivers on the roads must be extra careful because the lives of Ghanaians are precious.

Addressing drivers at the forum, Superintendent Amaning said most road accidents are the direct result of careless driving by commercial drivers.

He urged road users to abide by the basic road regulations in order to help minimize road accidents within the country.

According to a report by the MTTU, fatal accident cases reported to the police were faults of drivers and motorbike riders who use the motors for “Okada” business.

According to Superintendent Amaning: “Efforts to reduce road accidents should not be the work of only the police but citizens and drivers could also help by playing the role of the “watchdog” by reporting careless drivers to the police.”

He counseled drivers to go for regular checks on their vehicles, making sure that their cars are in good condition. This he said would help reduce road accident.
