GOGSPA IS PROUD OF MR. AKLORBORTU - GJA'S 2015 BEST REPORTER IN OIL & GAS

The Ghana Oil and Gas Service Providers Association (GOGSPA) will like to congratulate the Graphic Communication Group Ltd. and Mr. Moses Dotsey Aklorbortu for the continuous winning of the Oil & Gas awards and the latest being the just ended 20th Ghana Journalists Association Awards 2015.

The outputs of Mr. Aklorbortu is not new to the industry, his understanding of the industry gave many of us in the association hope that the future is bright. His investigations of illegal dumping of oil waste in the past saved the country from environmental disaster, his reportage on the upstream operations and fishermen brought to the attention of Ghanaians issues beyond the horizon as well as his reportage pushing for local content and local participation in the industry.

As we work toward the success of the oil and gas sector to make up for the disappointments in gold, bauxite and other minerals, which left many still in abysmal poverty, we need a vibrant media to support the drive. One of our fears at GOGSPA is the lack of dedicated media persons to report issues of the industry as we move towards the creation of well-informed society.

Today we are happy to learn that, Mr. Aklorbortu of the Daily Graphic did not relent in his quest for knowledge about the industry to protect the interest of the people of the Western Region and the benefit of the country as a whole but show class at the awards.

We at GOGSPA are aware that, oil and gas Industry is a very technical area that requires wealth of knowledge not to just report but report accurately and in many of our deliberations in some cases centered on how to whip up the interest of the media to report the industry truthfully.

Fortunately, since the inception of oil after the discovery in 2007, Daily Graphic, Graphic Business and Graphic Online consistently report issues about industry from the faulty flow meter on the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah, local content to environmental issues.

His name is a household name to industry in Ghana and to all of us in the association, we are proud to learn that the oil and gas award again went to him.

Our prayer is that, Mr. Aklorbortu, will remain in the media and play the gate keeping role for mother Ghana, our last engagement with him was on petroleum revenue management and local content. His contributions gave us hope that Ghanaian media rated number one in Africa and one of the best in the world is stronger than we thought. We hope that as CNN and BBC now have medical doctors, engineers and other professionals as reporters, Ghana will have strong hands in the media with understanding of the extractive sector especially oil and gas to help shape the country.

We hope he remains in the media to ensure that, the right information about the industry is sent out to the people of Ghana and through his search light on those of us in the sector as players, service providers, companies and regulators.

Ghanaians need to know about the industry since an informed society will always guarantee industrial harmony. Congratulations once again Mr. Aklorbortu, and Graphic Communications Group Ltd, we will always support in your work and call for support for you.
