NHIA to pay arrears in 1 month

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has agreed to pay all arrears owed the Health Insurance Service Providers Association of Ghana (HISPAG) within the next month.

This follows an agreement reached between the authority and the HISPAG after a meeting last Friday.

In view of that, members of HISPAG have agreed to reconsider their threats of reverting to the cash and carry system.

These resolutions were contained in a release copied to the Daily Graphic in Accra.

Agreement

HISPAG had planned to make National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) card holders pay outright at their facilities if the NHIA did not take immediate steps to clear arrears owed its members.

“This meeting follows similar ones the NHIA held with other service providers as a way of engaging its stakeholders in the face of delayed claims reimbursement,” it said.

Documents signed at the end of the meeting among others agreed that “HISPAG shall continue to provide services to NHIS card holders while the authority works to settle a good part of the arrears in a month”.

The meeting also agreed that “HISPAG shall work with its members to resolve issues of compliance with NHIS procedures and processes that affect reimbursement of claims to providers”.

Action

The statement further indicated that the NHIA would continue to work with the Ministry of Health to expedite action on the new NHIS medicine lists and tariffs for services delivered under the NHIS.

According to the statement, “the NHIA and other stakeholders shall continue to make the case for an even more improved flow of funds to facilitate the provision of quality healthcare at NHIS credentialed facilities.”
