NGO trains youth in project management
Play soccer Ghana, a non-profit organisation, has organised training in project management for volunteers at Samrit Hotel in Cape Coast.

Participants built their capacity on project management in order to apply the knowledge acquired in their day-to-day activities in the implementation of programmes initiated by the organisation.
Play soccer Ghana works in the area of education, health, water and hygiene, child and youth development services among others. It collaborates with local, national and international organisations that share its commitment to maximise scarce resources and develop grass-roots initiatives that can positively impact communities.
Workshop composition
The volunteers, made up of 16 youth and young adults, were recruited from the implementing communities to serve as instructors to teach the programme in their communities after the workshop.
In a presentation, the head of Monitoring and Evaluation of STAR-Ghana, Mr Frank Amoateng, who was the facilitator for the workshop, underscored the importance of project management and said it was for that reason the workshop was being organised to equip the participants with the rudiments of project management in order for them to be able to effectively monitor projects being implemented in their communities by Play Soccer.

After the two-day workshop, participants expressed satisfaction with the knowledge acquired and said the modules they were taken through would help them to determine their role and contribution to developing and implementing projects.
They asked the organisers to make such learning a frequent occurence, and recommended that one of the components of the project cycle, Needs assessment, be replicated in implementing communities to ascertain the relevance of the initiatives in the communities.
