NGO hands over gari processing factory to Dawiri community

BOK Africa Concern, a Berekum based Non-Governmental Organisation(NGO) working in partnership with development organisations have handed over a gari processing factory to the Dawiri community in the Jaman North District of the Bono Region.

The project, jointly funded by the NGO and it's collaborating agencies namely International Organisation for Migration(IOM), Ghanaian - German Centre for Jobs, Migration and Reintegration(GGC), and Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit(GIZ) aims at reducing the occurrence of irregular migration and to reintegrating migrants into the community by creating employment for returnee and potential migrants in the area.

A small number of participants including chiefs, the staff of the NGO, project technical officers, the media, opinion leaders and managers were invited to attend the event which observed the government's social distancing measures and hygiene protocols.

In his remarks, Mr Benson Obeng-Savio Boateng, the Executive Director of BOK Africa Concern, stated that the Dawiri community was selected for the project due to its record of high number of irregular migrants and huge socio-economic prospective, as well as its tenacity to manage and sustain development projects.

Mr Boateng indicated that the chiefs having being finally persuaded about the idea provided 1.24 acres of land, skilled and communal labour as well as local materials (wood, gravels) for its construction.

Mr Boateng indicated that revenues, profits that would be generated from the facility were expected to be used to develop and provide for the community's needs.

Mr Adane Ankomah, the District Chief Executive of the Jaman North District, noted that the establishment of the factory would also benefit surrounding communities in and around the Bono Region as well.

The DCE praised the chiefs, the NGO and its partners for putting up the structure for Dawiri community.

The factory's room includes a processing structure (with office/store, wet area, washing troughs) housing grating machine and four straining machines; mechanised borehole with water tower; a frying shed; a peeling shed; 12 sieves; four aluminium fryers; two weighing scales; and a simple dual bathhouse and a corner mill.
