NGO addresses societal challenges

Global Family Care, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) dedicated to the promotion of family well-being, has launched a project dubbed: “Embrace Ghana Empowerment Project” (EGEP) in Accra.

According to the Co-founder of the NGO, Mr Ebenezer Dzabaku, the project seeks to address some of the country’s challenges such as education, job creation, community and infrastructure development.

EGEP also seeks to address the problems of those whose lives were affected during the construction of the Akosombo Dam in the Eastern and Volta regions.

The project would compensate 30,000 youth that got their property and farmlands destroyed as a result of the construction of the Akosombo Dam through the provision of jobs and education to seek redress for the legal issues in court.

The NGO, which was established three years ago, aims to bring all Ghanaian professionals, academic, politicians, religious, traditional rulers and corporate leaders together for sustainable development and to initiate a process to reform the Ghanaian family union to take ownership of Ghana.

According to Mr Dzabaku, a research conducted by the NGO indicated that most political leaders, who made heartless and provocative statements had obtained their visas to travel to other countries.

“Some have also applied for visas for their wives, children and even their girl friends. Others too left the country immediately after voting, and as we speak now many of them have their tickets ready to travel abroad on the same day of the Supreme Court verdict. Therefore, the youth should not allow any person or a group of people to encourage or persuade them to do anything or act in a way that would lead to violence or disturb the peaceful and envious atmosphere of Ghana,” he said.

Mr Dzabaku said many countries on the continent were working in their efforts to achieve what Ghana and others had been able to do.

“ Let us all show maturity, tolerance and brotherliness by making sure that we accept  the verdict of the Supreme Court  for the sake of peace”.
