Ghana's international education landscape has received a boost following the inauguration of Learn Deutsch Limited's new German language training and OSD examination centre at Bawuleshie, East Legon, in Accra.
The ceremony, held last Friday, was hosted by the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Learn Deutsch, Ms Tracey Acquah-Meyer, and attracted diplomatic representatives, government officials, traditional leaders, international development organisations and educational stakeholders.
The highlight of the event was the unveiling of the new OSD examination centre, which Learn Deutsch says is the first of its kind in Ghana. The Österreichisches Sprachdiplom Deutsch is an internationally recognised examination system that assesses German language proficiency from A1 to C2 under the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Unlike certificates issued solely by individual language schools, OSD qualifications follow internationally standardised examination procedures. A distinguishing feature of the system is its recognition of the linguistic diversity of Germany, Austria and Switzerland, making it particularly relevant to learners seeking educational and professional opportunities across German-speaking Europe.
For Ghanaian students, professionals and families, the new centre expands access to recognised German language qualifications without depending exclusively on existing examination providers. German language certification is an important requirement for many Ghanaians pursuing university admission, vocational training, family reunification and certain residence opportunities in German-speaking countries.
According to Learn Deutsch, OSD certificates are recognised for applicable visa procedures in Germany, including certain family reunification, study and vocational training applications. The same applies to Austria, where the system originated.
The first scheduled OSD examination at the new facility will take place from November 30 to December 4, 2026.
Beyond examinations, Learn Deutsch is developing its Ghana-Germany Educational and Cultural Exchange Tour, an initiative designed to expose Ghanaian learners to German universities, vocational institutions, industrial, and cultural experiences.
Learn Deutsch Limited is a Ghana-based German language education institution offering German courses from A1 to B2, examination preparation, language certification services and international educational guidance.
