He was arrested on August 1, 2017, and has since been granted police enquiry bail to be arraigned subsequently.

Items

The items, according to the Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ebenezer Tetteh, included a delivery lamp, three hospital beds and a water hose.

Those items, according to ASP Tetteh, were described by Dr Osei Bonsu as scraps and, therefore, were of no use at the hospital.

However, he said, initial investigations by the police revealed that Dr Osei Bonsu’s driver, identified as Edward Damptey, was transporting the items in a vehicle belonging to the Ministry of Health to a private clinic in Kumasi, operated by the suspect.

“Dr Osei Bonsu who owns a private clinic in Kumasi was transporting the items through the driver, Edward Damptey, when the vehicle was intercepted,” ASP Tetteh stated.

He said the police were yet to check with the officer in charge of the Medical Stores of the hospital to see if any medical consumables or items had been missing since Dr Osei Bonsu assumed office over a year ago.
