Netherlands reaffirms support to Ghana

Also, the country helped to develop the National Environmental Sanitation Strategy and Action Plan (NESSAP), which was followed through with the District Environmental Sanitation Strategy and Action Plan (DESSAP).

That, according to the Acting Director of the Environmental Health and Sanitation Directorate of the Ministry, Mr Cosmos B Kambozie, was developed with district assemblies, peculiar problems, and it was, therefore, more effective in using it to handle environmental sanitation challenges at the district level.

Aside these, the two countries also agreed on a project, which would see to the implementation of some of all the strategies, depending on priority of districts.

They were to be executed under the $100 million Ghana Netherlands Wash Project in five districts.

To ensure that these projects yielded desired results, the Results Based Monitoring and Environmental Framework was developed, also with support from The Netherlands government.

"All these were done with direct funding and technical support from the Netherlands government", Mr Kambozie stated.

A programme officer with the Environmental Health and Sanitation Directorate at the Ministry, Mr Kweku Quansah, said the projects were yielding good results in addressing some of the challenges.

The government of the Netherlands has also been instrumental in the Ghana School Feeding Project.

The Chief Director, Nana Oduro-Kwarteng stated that the relationship between the ministry and the government of the Netherlands had been a collaborative one and expressed the hope that it would continue for the mutual benefit of the two countries.

Mr Opong-Fosu expressed appreciation to the Netherlands government and gave the assurance that the projects would be executed for the benefit of the people.
