Muslims in Sunyani saying prayers to end Eid-ul-Fitr

Muslims observe Eid-ul-Fitr in regions

Muslims all over the country celebrated the Eid-ul-Fitr Festival marking the end of the month-long Ramadan fast with prayers.

In Takoradi in the Western Region, hundreds of Muslims in the city and its surrounding communities converged on the Jubilee Park to offer prayers to Allah for guiding them through the Ramadan fast, Akwasi Ampratwum reports.

They were led by the Imam for the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, Sheikh Mohammed Awal, who prayed for lasting peace for the country.

He also prayed for Allah to bestow the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and his Vice, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, with wisdom to rule the country and for members of the government to discharge their duties conscientiously.

From Tamale, Samuel Duodu reports that the Northern Regional Minister, Mr Salifu Sa-eed; his deputy, Mr Solomon Boar, as well as the Minority Leader, Mr Haruna Iddrisu, joined hundreds of Muslims at the Ambariya School Park to offer prayers to mark the Eid.

The Leader of the Ambariya Muslim sect, Sheikh Issahaku Abubakar Tanko, led prayers for the peace and prosperity of the nation.

Ashanti Region

Emmanuel Baah reports from Kumasi that a large section of Muslims converged on the forecourt of the Kumasi Central Mosque to observe the Eid with prayers.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Simon Osei-Mensah, congratulated all Muslims in the region on going through another successful month of Ramadan.

He assured the people that the government, through the Zongo Development Fund (ZDF), had designed a comprehensive programme to help develop the zongo communities.

From Sunyani, Emmanuel Adu-Gyamerah and Biiya Mukusah Ali report that hundreds of Muslims in the Brong Ahafo Region converged on the Coronation Park to pray to mark the end of the Ramadan fast.

In attendance were the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh; the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sunyani East, Mr Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh; the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, Dr (Mrs) Evelyn Ama Kumi-Richardson; some heads of the security services; the Regional Chief Imam, Sheik Umar Abdul-Kadir, among others.

The Deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Chief Iman, Alhaji Baba Seidu, led the congregation in prayer.

Central Region

Muslims in the Cape Coast Metropolis also held a prayer session to mark the end of Ramadan, Shirley Asiedu-Addo reports.

They were joined by the Central Regional Minister, Mr Kwamina Duncan, who commanded Muslims for their support in ensuring peace in the metropolis and the region at large and urged them to continue to live in peace.

He urged the Muslim community to take advantage of the ZDF instituted by the government to improve themselves.

George Folley reports from Koforidua that the Eastern Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Yusif Amudani Sulemana, advised the Muslim youth to uphold the values of Islam.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Eric Darfuor, called on Muslims to support the government in its quest to further develop the country.

Upper West Region

In Wa, the Vicar-General of the Wa Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church, Father Cornelius Naah Bayirinoba, joined hundreds of Muslims to celebrate the Eid-ul Fitr Festival at the Wa Jubilee Park, reports Emmanuel Modey

The Wa Municipal Chief Imam, Dr Mufti-Alhaji Mohammed Sulemani Bakure, led the congregation in prayer for peace and tolerance.

The Upper West Regional Minister, Alhaj Sulemana Alhassan, called for an end to the wanton destruction of the environment through illegal mining and unrestrained felling of trees which affected the ecosystem.

Volta Region

From Ho, Tim Dzamboe reports that the Volta Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Anas Hamidu, led a large number of Muslims to offer special prayers to Allah for a successful Ramadan.

The Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, who attended the ceremony, assured Muslims that the ZDF would soon be disbursed to take care of the developmental needs of zongo communities.
