This year’s edition of the IFest is themed, “Faster connectivity, smarter business”.

According to statistics from the National Communications Authority, MTN currently leads the data market with 49.25% market share, and more than nine million subscribers as at April 2016.

Speaking at the launch of the ceremony, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Mr Asher Khan said the launch was special because the 4G service was introduced recently which would increase the speed in accessing and browsing the internet.

He said the main aim of dedicating a whole month to educate and create awareness was to promote the inherent benefits of broadband data access.

Mr Asher Khan urged all stakeholders to educate friends, families and business partners of the benefits of the internet in the new digital world.

According to Mr Khan, the internet had become a nerve centre in most aspects of human life. He said there had been a shift from sending and receiving emails to being inextricably linked with mobile phones.

He said beyond creating awareness, MTN has empowered many through IFest by creating the MTN Apps Challenge programme which had nurtured talents in the Ghanaian app developer community.

The programme has awarded more than ten developers in Ghana where winners have been hosted on the MTN Play and other app store platforms.

Mr Khan said, “The digital revolution has made the world smaller, connecting people who are thousands of kilometers apart, almost instantaneously. I dare say that we stand at a crossroad where opportunity and innovation meet.”

“It is up to each of us to take advantage of the wealth of opportunities afforded us by digital technology”, he said.

Mr Khan stated that, the company would undertake other activities which would include a tweetathon (a campaign organised on the micro-blogging site Twitter) with key personalities, market storms and engagements with Trade Unions to mark the 20th anniversary celebration.

He asked all persons to participate in the IFest celebrations for a better browsing experience.

Partners this year’s IFest celebration include, Huawei, Techno, Jumia, Microsoft, Samsung and Infinix.
