A Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah, has added his voice to advocate for the construction of a national cathedral for the country.

As part of the country’s 60th anniversary celebrations, the government is building a National Cathedral to serve as an interdenominational Christian place of worship in Accra.

However, since the announcement of the builidng of the National Cathedral, a section of the people have opposed it saying it was needless.

But, Mr Ahenkorah said the cathedral was important to provide a national platform for worhshipping for Christians.

Appreciate gov’t

Speaking on the theme “Thanksgiving”, he urged the public to appreciate the various polices and programmes initiated by the government, and trust that the government was doing all it can to better the economy.

He noted that the government would in a few months bring out strategies to help reduce the depreciation of the cedi.

“The Ministry of Finance has put together a team to have a conversation on the issue to bring on the table matters and ideas that would curtail the

depreciation of our currency. In a few months we are going to come up with pragmatic measures to reduce the depreciation of the cedi,” he said.

Mr Ahenkorah, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tema West, added that the government was committed to tackle the depreciation of the cedi.

Election

Touching on other government’s programmes he asked the public to support the free senior high school programme, adding that they were committed to do more and better than the eight years of the National Democratic Congress administration.

“I am aware of people who speak evil of some of the achievements of the government has chalked, however, those who have witnessed or enjoyed some of these achievements tell a different story,” he said.

He added: “even the 106 members of parliament of the opposition party are sometimes very grateful to the NPP’s free senior high school”.

Church

The Founder and leader of the church, Mr Emmanuel B. Danquah, speaking on the theme “Thanksgiving”, thanked the members and all who contributed to putting up the edifice, adding that they would continue to spread the word of God.

He said the church since its exception in 2006 has had many people receiving their healing and also restoring hope to the needy and hopeless.

“Today as we speak and witness the dedication of this place of worship, I will like to thank those who contributed their quota to the development and building of the ultra modern edifice,” he said.

The church, established in 2006, is located at Klagon in Accra and for 13 years it has organised outreaches and soul winning programmes.

Speaking on the upcoming elections, Mr Danquah encouraged all, particularly the youth to desist from engaging in violent activities.

With the issue of building a national cathedral, he said it was a move in the right direction, noting that it was good for the nation to have such an edifice.

In attendance was the wife of the Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr Asenso Boakye, Ms Juliet Gyamfi, Municipal Chief Executive of Tema West Municipal Assembly, Ms Adwoa Amoako and the Klagon Mantse, Nii Bortey Klan.
