Madina-Nkwantanang Municipal Assembly holds town hall meeting

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Madina-La Nkwantanang, Mr Franklin P. Anku, has stated that residents’ responsibility to regularly pay property rate should not in any way be tied to the assembly’s responsibility to construct roads.

“As citizens, we are obligated by our civic responsibility to pay taxes to help the assembly to provide the needed social services,” he explained.

Mr Anku made the assertion at the 2015 Town Hall Meeting at Madina in Accra. He appealed to residents to honour their tax obligations, as the assembly had planned and budgeted for a number of development projects.

Town hall meeting

The town hall meeting was instituted by the assembly as an avenue for residents in the municipality to take stock of the past and to take decisions on the future direction of the community.

This year’s event was attended by assembly members, heads of departments of the assembly, traditional leaders and other residents of the municipality.

Mr Anku expressed his dissatisfaction with the indiscriminate disposal of garbage along principal streets in the community and described the phenomenon as unacceptable.

Government determination

He said the government was working hard to address the needs of the people so that their living conditions would improve.

He, therefore, urged the people to be patient with the government as it worked to satisfy their needs. He said every community in the municipality would “get its fair share of the cake.”

The MCE said ever since the inception of the Madina-La Nkwantanang Municipal Assembly, “we have achieved successes and I believe all gathered here will testify to that.”

He was grateful to the participants for responding to the invitation to attend the meeting and said he was hopeful that their contributions would help in the development of the young assembly.
