Lawyer Boafo resigns

The president of the Ashanti Regional Hockey Association, Lawyer Yaw Acheampong Boafo, has resigned. He communicated his resignation to his executive members without citing any specific reason.

But Lawyer Boafo, who doubles as the president of the regional branch of the Ghana Bar Association, told the Daily Graphic in his office in Adum, Kumasi, that the non-sponsored league was a drain on his pocket, coupled with his busy law practice.

In his absence, his vice, Kwabena Akyeampong, a tax officer, takes over the remaining years of a four-year mandate.

Lawyer Boafo, who took over from Amo Gotfred, now executive member of the Ghana Hockey Association, was in his second year of a four-year mandate when he pulled out.

Despite his resignation, Mr Boafo still remains an active member of the association and a key player of the Seniors Hockey Club, though his absence brings a lot of challenge to the association and the league which is still struggling to attract sponsorship.

The association's only means of funding is through the subscription of the participating clubs and the benevolence of individuals.
