Kwabenya developers appeal for help

Some land developers at Kwabenya have appealed to the National Security and the Inspector General Police (IGP) to come to their aid and stop the activities of persons suspected to be land guards operating in the area.

The land developers said the land guards, who acted with impunity, harassed and seized their working equipment, as well as parcels of lands that had been genuinely acquired.

Confrontation

The developers made the appeal at their meeting at Kwabenya last Saturday.

One of the developers, Nii Aryee Tackie, said when he began working on two of the 10 plots he purchased about six years ago, some persons came to demand the site plan of the land.

"I showed them the site plan and some few documents. Later they said they were the legitimate owners of the land so I should pay some money to them but I said no," he said, adding that he eventually had to leave the place because of threats.

Mr Theophilus Amankwa, another developer, said two years ago, land guards pulled down a single room and a wall that his elder brother had constructed on his (brother’s) land.

"When I approached the land guards who pulled down the structures, one of them slapped me and asked me not to step foot on the land again," he said, and indicated that though he made a report to the police, the land guards had since sold the land to another developer.

The Youth Leader of the custodian of the land, the Abbey We family, Solomon Tettey, deplored the current state of affairs in the area.

He appealed to the security agencies to intervene, failing which he said things would get out of hand.
