John Institute condemns attacks on Hope City Project

This massive project is entirely driven by private capital led by the Adams Group chaired by the Rlg chief executive, Roland Agambire. With this latest project, Mr. Agambire has firmly put Ghana on the map, and is on the way to transforming the Weija/Kasoa peri-urban enclave into the Silicon Valley of Africa upon completion in three years time.

The quantum of money involved, the profile of the stakeholders, the glitzy sod cutting, the entertainment provided later, have all combined to provide the opportunity for commentary of all sorts on the project itself, its promoters, and the relation of all this to the government of the day, as part of the highly-charged political environment in this country.

A press statement by the Institute said it was obvious that the purveyors of negative news about the project, in the face of its promise, were unaware of the profit to be gained from the successful completion of the project.

The statement was signed by Mr Colin Essamuah, Ekow Nkrumah and Emmanuel Wiafe all of the Institute.

According to the Institute, the project driven entirely by private capital mobilised by a native Ghanaian must be a source of justifiable pride to all of us.

It also said that the promise of thousands of jobs for the teeming unemployed, and the provision of housing and other living facilities for thousands more were the very drivers that would transform the country.

Furthermore, the Institute said that the promise that the Hope City holds for the incubation and propagation of fresh and original ideas in the computer and information industry with a Ghanaian and African flavour was certain to encourage, inspire and urge others in related industries and pursuits to produce the synergy of ideas, purpose, resources and human capital that would bring even bigger projects into this country.

It cited Silicon Valley in the state of California in the United States, as home to the richest people in the world, people who have made it to the top from innovation, investment and production in the information technology industry.

It said a conscious effort to create wealth of this type in Africa based in our own country, led and directed by a son of this country, must be a source of pride to all of us who yearn for better lives for our people.

“This is a worthy project, the brainchild of a worthy son of the soil which must be fully supported by all true patriots of the land. The government of Ghana must extend all legally-permissible support to this fantastic enterprise in the form of tax rebates, exemptions and holidays. It is the duty of all governments to support local initiatives that seek to give work to idle hands, put food on the table for families, and a roof over their heads, in addition to provide social services that will make life even more comfortable for those who will have the chance to work for the Adams Group,” the Institute added.
