The chairman of the Board of Directors of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), Professor K. B. Omane-Antwi, has advised vendors of the company’s newspapers to consider their trade as a source of lifelong livelihood.
He, therefore, stressed the need for them to apply business acumen by keeping records and developing business plans for their survival.
He urged them to work together to maintain the brands of the company and added that their trade was not just selling but a business.
Prof. Omane-Antwi said this when he addressed vendors and staff members of the company during a visit to Ho as part of the board of directors’ tour of the regions to find out challenges facing staff and vendors of the company in the face of emerging trends in the newspaper industry and the proliferation of radio stations in the country.
Record keeping
Prof. Omane-Antwi said record keeping was crucial to business planning.
He advised the vendors against spending their capital.
He stressed the need for them to follow laid-down policies of the company because non-compliance had led to high indebtedness by some vendors and others to the company.
Deliveries
Prof. Omane-Antwi gave an assurance that the issue of late delivery of newspapers would be solved and advised them to form an association to discuss and present issues affecting them to the management of the GCGL for solutions.
He also urged them to work together to protect and promote the company’s brands, which he described as outstanding.
Professor Omane-Antwi impressed on the staff members to upgrade and add value to themselves and said the board members were in the region to motivate them.
Circulation
The Managing Director of GCGL, Mr Kenneth Ashigbey, said a new route had been developed for the southern sector aimed at eliminating inconveniences and fostering the rapid delivery of newspapers.
He said feedback would be given on all the issues that were discussed at the meeting within a month.
