He said last year he had insisted that all textbooks and exercise books must be printed in Ghana and the decision was yielding results.

Delivering the State of the Nation Address to Parliament yesterday, the President said about 1,400 jobs were being created through that initiative.

The decision, he said, was to empower Ghanaian companies to improve their delivery and create jobs for the people.

President Mahama said his government was one that opened opportunities for everyone without political considerations.

Ports and airports

He spoke about ongoing expansion works at the Tema and Takoradi ports and said their completion would improve operations at the ports.

He did not leave out the Kotoka International Airport, saying even with expansion works yet to be fully completed, the airport had taken on a new image

He said the new terminal which was under construction would be able to accommodate five million passengers a year.

Turning to the Tamale and the Kumasi airports, the President stated that moves to turn them into international airports were on course.

GITMO

He said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration had adequately briefed Parliament on the two Guantanamo Bay ex-detainees currently in the country.

He expressed concern over the misuse of social media and said it could derail efforts at fighting corruption and other challenges in the country.
