Government awards Achimota link road on contract

Although he did not give the exact date on which the project would begin, Alhaji Sulemani said all the paper work and technical terms had been finished.

He, however, raised concern over driver indiscipline on the roads and urged the management of the terminal and other transport unions to sanction drivers found engaging in that habit.

“The challenge is not about constructing roads but rather how the roads are used. In Ghana, it seems the better the quality of the roads, the more accidents that occur on them. This situation is hampering the development of the country,” he said.

Touching on how to deal with road indiscipline, Ms Ativor underscored the need for all  stakeholders in the transport sector to work together in ensuring that indiscipline on the roads, which culminated in accidents, was reduced.

“The government is not committed to only developing our roads and enhancing the welfare of the transport sector but also protecting the safety of citizens,” he said.

She pledged to continuously engage all stakeholders in the transport sector to ensure that challenges that hampered their growth were dealt with.

For his part, the Administrative Manager of ATT, Nana Bugyei,  said his outfit would ensure that drivers complied with road regulations and added that “any driver who is caught in any indiscipline on the road will be sanctioned”.
