GNASBA launches environmental day at Sang

The Ghana National Scholarship Beneficiaries Association (GNASBA) has launched a schools’ environmental sanitation education day at Sang in the Mion District of the Northern Region.

The programme, which was on the theme: "Restoring the environment to its original state: Our responsibility”, was under the chairmanship of

Sang Land Mussah, Chief of the Sang Traditional Area.

 The highlights of the programme were the presentation of 80 litter bins and 60 footballs to basic schools in the district on behalf of Fan Milk Limited.

 In his keynote address, Mr Dan W. Makandan, the Mion District Chief Executive, announced that UNICEF and the district were promoting sanitary activities in the district to prevent sanitation-related diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera and typhoid through the community-led total sanitation (CLTS) approach.

 He expressed the assembly's appreciation to Fan Milk Limited and the GNASBA for reaching out to the new district with the needed sanitary and sports package.

 The acting District Director of Education, Mrs Yakubu Balchisu, commended the GNASBA for choosing the district to organise this important national programme to help intensify the schools health outreach programme.

 In his address, the National Chairman of the GNASBA, Baffour Akwasi Oppong, announced that the association's school education campaigns would not be complete, if schools in the northern part of the country were not given the opportunity to participate in it.

 He saidthe association's working visits took the team to Gambaga, Nalerigu, Sang and Yendi.
