GMO commercialization case goes to Appeals Court

The Accra Human Rights High Court hearing the suit against the commercialization of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) has referred parties to the Court of Appeal on Wednesday, March 28 for a determination of a motion to stay proceedings.

The case involving Food Sovereignty Ghana & 3 others Vs National Biosafety Committee & 4 others, (Suit No. HRCM 43/15) was called on Monday, March 19, for continuation of proceedings, however, counsel for the fifth defendants, the Ghana National Association of Farmers & Fisherfolk (GNAFF), informed the court that they had filed a motion to stay proceedings at the High Court pending an appeal by FSG on an earlier dismissed injunction sought on the release of genetically modified (GMO) cowpeas and rice onto the Ghanaian market.
