Global Evangelical Church Women’s Ministry holds convention

The wife of the Vice-President, Mrs Matilda Amissah-Arthur, has urged Christian women to espouse virtues that will guide their behaviour and attitudes towards holistic transformation of the society.

She said as Christians, they must show love to all and sundry because women had been created in a unique way — to be mothers to all.

Mrs Amissah-Arthur was addressing the opening ceremony of the Fourth National Convention of the Women’s Ministry of the Global Evangelical Church (GEC) at their retreat centre at Wumenu in the Adaklu District of the Volta Region, at the weekend.

She said they should rise above political party colours and extend love to one another irrespective of party affiliation, tribe and social standing.

“Today the country is polarised; everything is seen in political colours. We should rise above it and love each other irrespective of who they are; party affiliation, tribe and social standing,” she said.

Women as change agents

Mrs Amissah-Arthur said women could lead the crusade to bring change to the status of the country if they really showed commitment in the upbringing of their children by  instilling good moral values  in them to enable them to grow to become responsible citizens.

She advised them against selfishness, backbiting and fighting against one another.

The Moderator of GEC, Rt. Rev. Dr Edem Kwaku Tettey, commended the executive of the women’s group for mobilising about 4000 members to attend the convention, pointing out that it was a sign that they were a force to be reckoned with, and pledged support to them to advance evangelism work.

In a welcome address, the National Co-ordinator of GEC Women’s Ministry, Rev. Mrs Edith Adoblosu-Kuhlor, said women were dismayed about skirmishes of intolerance bordering on tribal and religious sentiments in some parts of the country and asked the security agencies to be proactive to stem the tide.

Negative effects of social media

She said some aspects of the social media were doing more harm than good and indicated the ministry’s commitment to stand against indecent language and profane utterances on some media networks, since according to them, it would do children no good; and they are also  not a good legacy to leave behind for them.

“As mothers, we condemn the pornographic materials, insults against the president and those in authority, lies and defamation of character circulated on twitter and facebook,” she stated.

Rev. Mrs Adoblosu-Kuhlor called for divine strength for Mrs Amissah-Arthur to enable her to perform her philanthropic duties at the hospitals, orphanages, schools, institutions and witches camps, adding that those interventions put back smiles on the faces of the deprived, the sick and especially children who found themselves in difficult conditions, through no fault of theirs.

Mrs Amissah-Arthur later presented assorted medical equipment to be donated to cured lepers in Ho.
