The police said before the driver’s mate could pick the detached part of the truck off the road, the mini-bus with registration number WR 1607-18, that was conveying passengers to Takoradi, emerged speeding towards the truck.

In an attempt by the mini-bus driver to avoid the detached part of the truck lying in the middle of the road, it rammed into the back of the stationary truck resulting in the casualties.
Before help came from an ambulance team and personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service, the six had died.

The driver of the mini-bus, whose name was given as James Safo, survived the accident and he, together with the injured passengers, was sent to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Referral Hospital and the Kwesimintsim District Hospital both in the Sekondi/Takoradi and the Effia-Kwesimintsim municipality, respectively.
