Steel-bender grabbed for attempting to defraud Rashid Pelpuo

An Accra Circuit Court has granted a GH¢120,000.00 bail with two sureties to a steel-bender, who attempted to defraud a former Minister of State, under the pretext of supplying him with boxes of oil well cement.

One of Michael Mensah’s sureties should be justified and he will appear again before the Court presided over by Madam Ruby Naa Aryeetey on January 3, 2019.

He had denied conspiring with one Tamakloe, his accomplice who is currently on the run for attempting to defraud Mr Rashid Pelpuo the Member of Parliament (MP) for Wa Central in the Upper West Region.

Police Chief Inspector Isaac Agbemehia told the court the prosecution witness is a former Minister of State and resident at Nii Boye Town whilst Mensah lived at Santa Maria, all suburbs of Accra.

He said about a month ago, Mensah introduced himself to the former Minister as the Chief Executive Officer of Bui Power Authority and could supply him with quantities of the oil well cement.

The Prosecution continued that Mensah also introduced Tamakloe as his partner and they all agreed to supply him with 25 boxes of the so-called oil well cement, each valued at GH¢60,000.00.

The Prosecution said on November 7, this year, the accused requested that Mr Pelpuo meet him and Tamakloe at “Aunty Aku’s” Junction around Santa Maria for him to make a part payment of GH¢120,000.00.

He said the two went in a taxi cab, where Tamakloe remained in the waiting taxi whilst Mensah went to meet the Minister.

He said unknown to Mensah the police had by then lay ambush and when he got out to meet the MP he was arrested and when Tamakloe got wind of it he escaped.

The Prosecution said after investigations, Mensah was charged and put before the court.
