The First Lady, Lordina Dramani Mahama, has called on family’s friends and loved ones to support people living with breast cancer, stand by survivors and offer comfort to families who have lost loved ones.
“We must also reject stigma and misinformation that prevent people from seeking help.
This October, let’s go beyond raising awareness and take action.
She said, “Listen to each person’s story, respect every journey and work together to ensure everyone receives timely screening, diagnosis, treatment and support.
By working together, we can make our communities stronger and create lasting change in the fight against breast cancer”.
Awareness month
In a statement to observe Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, the First Lady said: “This October, as we observe Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we are once again committed to raising awareness, encouraging early detection and supporting everyone affected by breast cancer”.
This year’s theme, “Every story is unique, every journey matters,” highlights that each diagnosis impacts individuals and their families.
Every story deserves compassion, dignity, support and quality care.
No one should face breast cancer alone.
Breast cancer, the statement said, remained one of the most common cancers among women worldwide and early detection improves treatment effectiveness and increases survival rates.
Regular screening, prompt medical attention and access to appropriate care, the statement said, save lives.
“As Founder and President of the Lordina Foundation, I urge everyone to prioritise their breast health.”
“This month, please visit a public health facility for a free breast cancer screening and consultation,” it added.
“ Let’s beat breast cancer together”
