Asantehene to be honoured with ‘Pillar of Peace’

For the crucial role he played in leading the Committee of Eminent Chiefs over a period of 17 years to bring peace to Dagbon, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II will be honoured later in the year with the title, “Pillar of Peace” at the maiden African Premier Leadership Awards in Kumasi on December 29, 2019.

The awards ceremony to be held on December 29, is instituted under the distinguished patronage of the International Centre for the Promotion of Human Rights (CIPDH Africa) in collaboration with E ON 3 Group, a Ghanaian Business Solutions Provider based in Accra, which recently organised the “World-Meets-in-Ghana Investors Forum and Executive Dinner Ball  in Kumasi.

Other notable groups such as GBSH Consult Group Worldwide, UAE-Africa Development Consortium, Future Africa Foundation, Novel Vision and the State Enterprises Commission are among the implementing partners.

At the ceremony, other illustrious Ghanaians from various sectors of the economy will also receive awards for working to advance national development.

The Executive Director of E ON 3 Group, Mr Richard Adjei Mensah Ofori-Atta and the Group Executive Chairman and GBSH Consult Group Worldwide, Prof. Dr Ambassador, Tal Edgars, were at the Manhyia Palace last Wednesday to inform the Asantehene of his nomination for the award.

Mr Ofori-Atta said what the Asantehene did over the years , galvanising the other eminent chiefs sometimes at very difficult times to ensure that the protracted Dagbon dispute was resolved was worthy of honour.

“Otumfuo, you have been on the Golden Stool for 20 years and you have used 17 of those years to work tirelessly to restore peace to Dagbon and such a feat needs to be recognised,” he told the Asantehene.

Making reference to the destruction of lives and property that characterised the Dagbon crisis, Mr Ofori-Atta said the development contributed to compounding poverty in the area.

“It required the vision of Otumfuo and the other eminent  chiefs for the feuding parties to agree to smoke the peace pipe,” Mr Ofori-Atta said.

He expressed the hope that the new lease of life being enjoyed in Dagon would be sustained.

Commemorative notes

The executive director mentioned that plans were in place for the E ON 3 Group to partner with a Polish firm to produce commemorative notes  with the portrait of the Asantehene as part of his award.

Besides, a tour of about 20 countries would be organised to proclaim Otumfuo Osei Tutu’s feat as a global peace maker.

Otumfuo impressed

Responding, the Asantehene said the recognition was an honour to Asanteman and the other eminent chiefs who worked tirelessly for peace to return to Dagbon.

He also recognised the roles played by successive governments for Dagbon to have peace.

He gave the assurance that the Manhyia Palace would support the event organisers to help make the awards ceremony, a success.
