The DWM, a non-governmental organisation and advocacy group, has celebrated its 44 years of existence with unwavering commitment to the empowerment, dignity and advancement of women.
A statement signed by its Project Director, Peace Aryee, said, “This anniversary arrives with a mix of pride and profound reflection”, adding that “while we celebrate the countless lives transformed, the barriers broken, and the voices amplified over the decades, we also carry the weight of a deep loss”.
“Just months ago, we said goodbye to our remarkable President, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, former First Lady of Ghana, a visionary leader whose courage, wisdom and relentless advocacy helped shape the lives of millions of women,” it said.
“Her absence is deeply felt, yet her legacy lives on in every girl who dares to dream bigger, every woman who stands taller in her power, and every community that continues to rise because she believed it was possible.
“For 44 years, we have stood at the forefront of change, challenging inequality, fostering leadership, and building pathways where none existed.
Today, we reaffirm that mission with even greater resolve. We honour the past not only with remembrance, but with action,” it said.
“As we move forward, we do so united and guided by the values she championed and strengthened by the community she helped to build.
The journey is far from over, but neither is our resolve and determination.
“As we celebrate, we also urge the government to accelerate affirmative action education and its implementation in our communities.
This will encourage more competent women to take up valuable roles to help develop our society.
“To our members, partners and supporters, we say thank you for walking this path with us.
Together, we will continue to push boundaries, uplift voices and create a future where every woman and girl thrives,” it added.
