The Ghana Education Service (GES) has begun investigations into a viral video in which the headteacher of a school in the Central Region is seen having sex with a young lady believed to be a third-year senior high school (SHS) student.
Even though the video shows that the two had consensual sex, information from the school said the headteacher had since fled the community where the act is said to have taken place as the video was freely shared via WhatsApp and other social media platforms.
Confirming the viral video in an interview in Accra yesterday, the Head of the Public Relations Unit of the GES, Ms Cassandra Twum Ampofo, said: “Yes, we have seen the video, people are alleging that the headteacher says the student is 20 years old or whatever, but we do not depend on such statements.
“We deal with our directors and once the regional director sends us the report signed by her, then we take it up from there,” she said.
Ms Ampofo further confirmed that an investigation had commenced and that the headquarters was yet to receive the report.
She explained that it was only after the report was received that sanctions would be applied if the headteacher was found culpable.
Ms Ampofo denied issuing a press statement, emphasising that her outfit had not yet received the report and would, therefore, not be in the position to issue a statement on it.
She said there were allegations circulating that the headteacher concerned had been dismissed.
“I tell them that we do not dismiss or sack our teachers like that,” she said.
Ms Ampofo explained that the fact that the GES had seen the video did not mean that it should sack the headteacher.
She said in a situation like that the person was taken through a disciplinary process before any action could be taken.
The culprit, whose identity is withheld, is a headteacher in the Central Region.
The video, which is said to have been recorded by the headteacher himself, shows him with the girl kneeling in front of him on a kitchen stool, while he performs the act.
He is said to have fled the community when the video went viral.
