Launch

At a short ceremony in Accra last Wednesday to launch the product, the acting Managing Director of GCB, Mr Samuel Sarpong, said the product formed part of the bank’s initiative to leverage “the growing digital lifestyle and the proliferation of smartphones.”

“Not only is the product intended to facilitate faster service delivery and reduce the high dependence on cash but also give merchants control over their receipts,” he said.

Present at the launch of the “GCB Litepay” were the Governor of the Central Bank, Dr Henry Kofi Wampah; the Managing Director of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), Mr Kenneth Asigbey, and other dignitaries.

The Board Chairman of GCB, Mr Daniel Owiredu, who launched the product, said it would create value for both shareholders and stakeholders.

“We expect that this product will make payment easy for taxi drivers, food delivery services, mobile vendors, and other operators,” he said.

The Head of Consumer Banking, Mrs Doris Wunu, in a presentation said the GCB Litepay initiative would enhance the resolution of customer complaints.

“It will facilitate remote monitoring and control of the activities of business transactions through dedicated web portals,” she said.
