The Electoral Commission says Friday morning's fire outbreak at its Greater Accra Regional Office located at Sapeiman near Amasaman will not affect the December 2020 elections.

The main office building was not affected.

She said election materials which were stored in the building were destroyed.

Some of the materials included voter registration forms used in the 2012 elections.

The fire reportedly started at around 2:30 am on Friday, August 14, 2020.

Fire personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were however able to stop the fire from spreading to other offices.

Fire tenders were mobilised from Amasaman, Kotoku, Nsawam and Abelemkpe to quench the fire.

Mrs Annor said investigations by the GNFS and other security agencies has commenced and the report will be made public when it was ready.

"It is important to assure the general public that the fire outbreak will not affect the conduct of the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections," Mrs Annor assured.
