Her name, age and identity was revealed in a release issued and signed by Mr Salifu Saeed, the chairman of the Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) and the Regional Minister, declaring an immediate manhunt for the escapee.

The REGSEC urged the general public to look-out for any strange young lady with the above description and provide any relevant information to the security agencies to trace her.

The REGSEC also directed the security agencies to search any premises and question any person or group in the search to locate her.

"Anyone who is found to have the lady in his or her possession and has not reported to the security agencies will be dealt with by the law", the statement stated.

"In the same vein anyone who attempts to obstruct the security in their search for the lady will not be spared by the law", it added.

The RESGEC also called for the support and cooperation of chiefs, opinion leaders, religious leaders, youth groups and the entire citizenry to track this lady down so that she does not contact people and expose them to the virus.

"We must appreciate the danger that this lady poses to our health and support any effort that will lead to her tracking down", the release said.

Background
Zainab Bangula is one of 10 foreigners from Guinea and Burkina Faso who tested positive for the COVID-19 in Tamale last week and had been quarantined at a hotel in which they lodged since their arrival in Tamale.

The group consists of eight Guineans who are all females with the youngest said to be the escapee, while the two others come from Burkina Faso.

Since news of Zainab Bangula’s escape from quarantine broke out it has created fear and panic among residents in the metropolis as many continue to stay at home for their safety.
