The Economic and Organised Crime Office has denied reports suggesting that it was demanding a bail surety of GH¢50 million in relation to the arrest of the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah in matters it was currently investigating.
In a statement dated October 2, 2026 EOCO said the MP voluntarily surrendered on October 1 at 10 am and is cooperating with the Office to continue with the necessary investigative processes.
The Office said it is fervently working with the Office of the Attorney-General to bring the suspect before a weekend court, mindful of the applicable constitutional timeframes and procedural requirements governing bail.
EOCO urged the public to disregard media reports that it has granted the suspect a GH¢50 million bail.

Manhyia South MP Baffour Awuah surrenders to EOCO, arrested
Background
The MP’s arrest follows several months of efforts by EOCO to secure his attendance before investigators in connection with allegations relating to criminal conspiracy, financial loss to SIC Savings and Loans, money laundering, tax-related offences, and other matters under investigation.
The development follows a High Court warrant issued on September 20 authorising EOCO to arrest the MP after the agency told the court it had exhausted reasonable means of securing his voluntary attendance.
An earlier attempt by EOCO officers to arrest the MP at the Accra High Court on September 23 resulted in a confrontation at the court premises, with the MP later describing the encounter as an attempted abduction and seeking sanctuary at Parliament.
The investigation concerns legal work carried out by the MP’s former law firm, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners, for SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited in an attempt to recover millions of cedis from Equity Savings and Loans.
