Engage stakeholders to ensure cyber security in Ghana – cyber security expert

The Chairman of Africa Cybersecurity and Digital Rights Organisation (ACDRO), Mr Francis Adu Amanfoh has called on government to constantly engage academia, civil society organisations and the citizenry to ensure stability, security and safety in the country’s cyberspace.

He said there was the need to share information among certain key stakeholders such as the economic sector and the national security system to facilitate quick resolution of cyber security incidents.

Mr Amanfoh who was speaking at the second civil society cyber security workshop in Accra on Thursday, July 18, 2019, said a coordinated communications, information sharing, security awareness, education and cooperation among stakeholders would constitute a security strategy for the country’s cyber space.

The workshop, which was aimed at creating awareness and building the capacity of civil society organisations to contribute to the development of a citizen-centric national cyber security policy and strategy, was on the theme: “Making our national cyber security policy and strategy citizen –centric.”

Mr Amanfoh said the continued communication would enable the stakeholders to foster cooperation and engagement and to build trust among them.

Africa Cybersecurity and Digital Rights Organisation (ACDRO) is a non- profitable organisation pioneering the rights to access and freedom of expression within the digital environment in Africa.

The Vice President of Lucas University, Dr Hilla Addo, in a short address said technologically “we (Ghana) are far behind so we must catch up with the cyber world.”

He called on the government to give students who are offering Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) scholarships for further studies.

He said the internet has improved to the extent that those who are technologically illiterate are seen to be poor, saying “If you don’t have internet, you are seen as a poor person.“
