The Member of Parliament for Kpando in the Volta Region, Mrs. Della Sowah has underscored the importance of sustaining and promoting the country’s cultural identity.
According to her, cultural identity gives a person the sense of belonging and belonging towards their culture.
“Culture identity makes a person feel he is belonged to some groups that provide the sense of security which give an opportunity to build relationship with someone who share the same culture”.
“If a county’s nationals share with the same culture identity, the county would be much easier to step forward. This is due to the shared mind set of the nationals”
Wear Ghanaian Fashion
Speaking at the launch of the Wear Ghana Project in Accra, Mrs. Sowah was of the view that one of the ways of maintaining the nation’s cultural identity was for Ghanaians to patronise Ghanaian fashion.
She also said ‘we need to be proud to showcase our Ghanaian identity”.
She therefore urged the citizenry to wear Ghanaian clothing in the month of March, adding that will help promote the fashion industry and boosting the Ghanaian economy.
Mrs. Sowah and the MP for Shama Mr. Ato Panford MP have been made ambassadors for the Wear Ghana Project.
Support women businesses
Mrs. Sowah further observed that most of the industry players were women who needed to be encouraged.
She added that it was essential to promote their products thereby reducing the financial burden of Ghanaian women and their family at large.
“It is necessary to boost their businesses, by wearing their clothes, their shoes and jewelry as well” she said.
The CEO of Street Fashion Train Mr. Benjamin Mills, the organisers of the Wear Ghana Project said the event was intended to promote the Ghanaian Fashion Industry.
Ghanaians have been encouraged to wear made in Ghana clothes in the month of March.
The Minister of Information, Mr. Mustapha Hamid who launched the Wear Ghana Project added that Ghanaians must join in the campaign to achieve social change and national transformation.
He opined that failure to patronise Ghanaian products would lead to a breakdown in the economy.
He therefore entreated all Ghanaians to support the campaign.
The Director of the National Commission on Culture believes that through the “Wear Ghana campaign we will be able to re-orient Ghanaians to choose local brands over foreign ones”.
The event was in partnership with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation and the National Commission on Culture.
