Cowbell launches 20th anniversary

Promasidor Ghana Limited has announced that it will construct 20 boreholes for some deprived communities in the country as part of activities to commemorate the 20th anniversary of its Cowbell brand.

According to the Managing Director of the company, Mr Festus Tettey, Cowbell@20 marks the 20th-anniversary celebration of powdered milk brand Cowbell and it will be used to thank consumers across Ghana for their continuous patronage of Cowbell over the two decades.

In an address at the Media Launch of Cowbell@20 on Monday, Mr Tettey said the company was committed to supporting the Ghanaian community in diverse ways.

He said: "Over the 20 year period Promasidor has equally supported its community in diverse ways. One of the key areas of our community investment has been in the area of sports. We have been partners with the cycling fraternity, caddy golf, as well as school and mass sports just to mention a few.

"We have also supported education and cognitive development by partnering and rewarding many students in schools across the country during speech and prize giving days for the best-performing students. In addition, we have sponsored a number of quiz competitions in schools and have here at this event many partners as witnesses. We have in some deprived communities also undertaken infrastructural projects, providing decent classrooms and furniture as well as transportation to take children to and from school.

"In the area of health, we have supported infrastructure in deprived communities as well as contributed to the treatment of children from very humble backgrounds to put a smile on their faces. We have also donated our products to some children’s hospitals to support malnourished children, especially in the area of protein-energy malnutrition popularly known as Kwashiorkor.

"Our list of community engagement is quite long, recounting this however gives credence to our chosen theme to mark the 20th anniversary of the Cowbell brand which is, “Nourishing Bodies, Minds and Dreams".

Mr Tettey also disclosed that the company currently directly employs 800 people and has a total of 16 stock keeping units.

Activities

Outlining other activities to celebrate the anniversary, the Brand Manager of Cowbell, Mr Joseph Ashong said the company will donate 200,000 sachets of Cowbell to pediatric units across the country and also launch a Cowbellpedia, a quiz competition for Junior High Schools and Senior High School students aimed at discovering the next generation of Ghanaian mathematicians.

"The borehole project is tentatively slated for June after we have identified all the beneficiary communities," Mr Ashong said.

"Water is a basic necessity of life and as a communal brand; Cowbell believes that everyone irrespective of their socioeconomic standing should have access to quality drinking water. Cowbellpedia, is a quiz competition, which is geared towards identifying, recognizing and rewarding excellence in the subject area of mathematics and Cowbell will also donate 100,000 sachets to separate pediatric units of hospitals across the country".

Educational partner

The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa mentioned that over the years, Cowbell had proven to be a key partner of the development of education through a number of programmes.

"Over the year, Cowbell has collaborated with the GES to organise athletic competitions at the pre-tertiary level all geared towards improving the psychomotor skills of the children. In addition to that, Cowbell cognitive stimulative activities such as the quizzes, essays and reading contests run with schools are very commendable," Professor Opoku-Amankwa said.

He also assured Promasidor that the management of GES would remain a key partner of the company.

Commendation

Commending Promasidor for their contributions to the development of the Okaikoi South community, the Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Ahmed Arthur urged the company to provide employment quotas for residents of the area.

In the same vein, the Mayor of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Mohammed Adjei Sowah said congratulated Promasidor for their successes over the years and assured them of any support required to improve their operations.
