According to him, corruption had retarded the growth and peace in the country hence  the need to adopt stringent measures to address the issue to enhance peace and development.

Speaking at the Christmas church service at the Resurrection congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Makola, in Accra, Prof. Martey charged Christians to embrace the true meaning of Christmas in order to facilitate transparent development of the country.

The birth of Christ, he said, demonstrated optimism hence the need for Christians to take up the challenge to eschew corruption in the country.

He also spoke against corruption in the church and advised the congregation to allow the real purpose of the birth of Christ to reflect in their lives.

Christmas is peace

He called on Ghanaians to rise up and hoot at corruption as well as strengthen the transparency system to ensure the speedy development of the country.

Additionally, Christmas brought the gift of peace and comfort to Christians, he said, and these would manifest if Christians cast their burden on Christ.

He advised Ghanaians to adopt and follow the path of collective action which he believes, would also help to tackle corruption.

He also believed that the country has been involved in evil practices which,  are undermining the peace and development of the country.

He charged Ghanaians to shun evil practices such as corruption, murder and  fornication, but rather embrace righteousness and allow God to steer the spiritual affairs of the country.

Professor Martey urged Ghanaians to pray for the leadership of the country to ensure a swift change in the peace and economy of the country.

He charged the Presbyterian Church to demonstrate leadership quality as it marked its 186th anniversary celebration.

Baptism

The occasion was also used to baptise children into the Presbyterian faith.

The District Minister at the Resurrection congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt Rev Colonel Adoteye- Asare, said baptism was very vital in Christianity because it affirmed the individuals’ commitment to surrender their lives to God.

He advised parents to instil discipline and the fear of God in their children to ensure that when they became adults they would demonstrate godly traits.
